Blood Links

The strength of the work, apart from its structure, is the beauty of the images. The portraits shimmer with life
Bryce Hallett, Sydney Morning Herald

Blood Links is an intriguing blend of storytelling, social history, performance and documentary photography by renowned Australian artist William Yang. Blood Links traces the scattering of his family, who migrated from China to Australia over a hundred years ago.

With humour and irony this visual history of one migrant family takes us around the world and back again, capturing the uniqueness in every experience. A family story of birth, traditions, skeletons, death, love and cuisine, hauntingly familiar in content, Blood Links is being acclaimed across the globe.

A landscape of names, identities, faces, rituals and food this work also tells stories of cultural links William has made in his travels across three continents. Blood Links takes us on a feast, a journey transcending cultural boundaries and family grudges.
