Triangular Rhythms is a Hip-Hop project uniting Breakers from Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Australia for collaborative creative development and exchange, led by choreographer Nick Power and grounded in a partnership with Wan Smolbag Theatre (Port Vila). Triangular Rhythms creates pathways for continued amplification of street dance’s place in contemporary performance making, and for career development for Pacific artists.
The project was seeded with an initial residency alongside a tour of Deejay x Dancer in November 2024. From this spark, the relationship with Wan Smolbag and its vibrant community of artists has grown, and a return residency occurred in October 2025, drawing in Breakers from New Caledonia to join the project. Nick and collaborators started development of a new dance work, alongside a workshop program.
Performing Lines and Wan Smolbag are planning further development in the Pacific in 2026, and in Australia and the broader region in 2027-28.
