NSW Regional Producers Intensive

Successful applicants to the NSW Regional Producers Intensive will have the opportunity to: 

• Develop their producing skills in a dedicated space for learning, away from your usual place of residence or work 
• Learn practical tips and tricks from industry-leading producers and producing case studies 
• Work and build networks with a diverse group of other regionally-based producers 
• Receive tailored producing advice and mentorship to take your practice, project or project idea to the next level 
• Resources and templates to take home and use for your individual practice 
• Attendance at a new national symposium for regionally based artists and producers, to further develop and extend your network and knowledge

As part of the intensive, participants will also attend Groundswell, a new artist-led symposium for regionally based creatives led by NORPA and Crimson Rosella.

GROUNDSWELL is an artist-led symposium highlighting innovation and ingenuity in arts and performance emerging from creative practices based outside Australia’s metropolitan centres. Through case studies, workshops, landscape-based experiences and collaborative inquiry, artists and project leaders will share the ideas, process and philosophy behind major works created in their respected regions, exploring new approaches to creative leadership, First Nations collaboration, socially engaged practice and large-scale production outside the city.

This program is specifically designed for regionally based producers, self-producing artists, and/or arts workers looking to develop and hone their skills in producing.

For example, you may identify as: 

• A producer who has delivered projects with artists or done event management 
• An artist who self produces their own work  
• An arts administrator or project co-ordinator working in local council, or within a venue or arts organisation  
• A community organiser with experience coordinating local events 

This is not an exhaustive list and we encourage applications that may not self-identify with the roles mentioned above. We encourage people from a variety of professional backgrounds to apply.  If you are unsure whether this program is right for you, please get in touch to discuss. 

Successful applicants must be physically based or reside in one of the nine regions below as identified by Create NSW’s Plan for Regional NSW Arts, Culture and Creative Industries: 

• North Coast 
• Hunter 
• New England and North West 
• Central West and Orana 
• Central Coast 
• Illawarra Shoalhaven 
• South East and Tablelands 
• Riverina Murray 
• Far West

We want to hear about your current experience, what opportunities you have identified, and what barriers you may be facing in order to achieve your current producing goals. 

Successful applicants will also be required to bring a project or project idea with them to centre their learnings and discussions with the mentors. This can range from the seed of an idea or a fully realised work.

Applications will be assessed by a panel of both Performing Lines staff and industry practitioners, who will consider the above factors in addition to the professional mix of the cohort and ensure representation from across the NSW regions. 

You may choose to submit text answers or a video speaking to why you would benefit from this Intensive.  

We strongly encourage First Nations, POC, and people with disability to apply.

Please note: you are welcome to apply for multiple programs within the NSW Regional Producers Initiative and will be considered for each program you apply for. However, to ensure equity in support, successful applicants will be offered an opportunity for only one of the programs.

Performing Lines is committed to providing an inclusive space for all to be involved. Please let us know in your application if you require additional support, or please reach out prior to applying to discuss any access or equity barriers around your participation. 

There is budget available to support access and cultural needs to make your participation in each program possible should your application be successful.

For example, this can look like (but is not limited to) providing: 

• An AUSLAN interpreter 
• A Closed Captioning service
• A language translations service 
• Subsidies to support care for children, elderly, people with Disability, or other dependents to support your travel away from home. 

For Aboriginal or First Nations applicants who would like to speak to a First Nations participant, Kyron Weetra or Lillie Paton, regarding their experience on a previous Performing Lines training program, please get in touch with your preferred participant.

For people who need to communicate accessibility requirements, there is an option to upload an Access Rider to your application.
