Marcus Whale

Marcus Whale (b. 1990, Sydney) is a musician and performance-maker whose music, performance and writing are about the ecstasy and horror of desire, excess, the void and the divine. As a solo artist, his performances explore the tension and spontaneity of the performative moment, drawing on the pageantry of religious ritual, queer performance and horror film. Presented across club, theatre, gallery and more makeshift contexts, they range from sets of live music to song-length club moments to full-length stage shows, often taking place in the round or amongst audiences and moving off the stage and into the room.

He is a current member of the band Perfect Actress, a former member of Collarbones and BV, and a 7-time nominee for the Australian Music Prize. He presents the show Sleepless in Sydney on FBi Radio. Recent shows include Ecstasy for Liveworks Festival and The Substation/Rising, Needlemouth and Tower of Babel for Soft Centre/Now or Never, and Tiny Hole Inside Me (with Andrea Illes) for The Lab.
