Virtuosi

Sue Healey

Virtuosi is a documentary dance film; cine-portraits of 8 New Zealand dance artists who have created stellar international careers.

What drives these artists to pursue careers to the other side of the world?
What are the revelations when one returns home?
Why dance?

Framed by the music of New Zealander Mike Nock, Virtuosi is a reflection on journeys from home and artistic virtuosity.

Virtuosi weaves ideas and dances across many cities and cultures – Berlin, London, New York, Sydney, Melbourne, Townsville, Brussels – revealing fascinating dance lineages and connections back to New Zealand.

Virtuosi is directed by Sydney-based choreographer/filmmaker Sue Healey and created in close connection with the music of internationally celebrated Mike Nock. Both Healey and Nock are originally from New Zealand and have been long time collaborators in Australia, since meeting in New York in the 1980’s.
