The Curiosities

Sue Healey

The Curiosities looks at the architecture of the human body – its intricate structure and evolution – and its physical and emotional complexities.

Inspired by the processes of biological development and evolution, The Curiosities evokes the feeling of a surreal natural history museum, where the body is presented as a specimen for scrutiny – homo sapiens, exquisitely adapted but curious at its fringes, fragile and flawed, ever-evolving.

The piece brings together scientists, dancers and media artists, fusing film, animation, lighting and sound to complement the dancers’ bodies. The result is a rich, layered performance which resonates with a broad audience.

“It’s so universal, we all have a body, we all grow old… I’m trying to bring the audience into the work, into the drama that happens within the dance.” Sue Healey
