MAPS NSW

The Managing and Producing Services (MAPS) NSW initiative offers managing and producing services to three theatre and three dance groups in NSW, enabling them to create, present and tour their work more effectively. An initiative of the Australia Council (co-funded in NSW by the NSW Government through Arts NSW), similar programs operate in Victoria (managed by InSite Arts), Queensland (MAPS for Artists) and in Western Australia (Performing Lines WA). MAPS NSW began in June 2009.

The MAPS NSW artists are: Branch Nebula, De Quincey Co, Martin del Amo, post, Ride On Theatre, Sue Healey.

The MAPS Producer works closely with the artists to develop and realise their projects.  The type of activities undertaken with the artists can be broadly categorised as:

  • Creative Producing: the hand-on creative producing of new work – selection and management of collaborating artists, developing partnerships with presenters and co-producers, critical feedback and evaluation, fundraising.
  • Administrative and financial: creating and managing budgets, applying for and administering grants, managing contracts, logistics, payroll and finances.
  • Networking and advocacy:  connecting the artists to new networks of peers, presenters, funding bodies; advocating on behalf of the artists and their work; marketing and publicity support.
  • Strategic planning: looking ahead to the future; planning; considering timelines and critical pathways; considering future opportunities from the earliest stages of a concept.
